About me

Hi there! My name is Ben and I'm 29 years old. When I'm not counselling I'm either playing bass or bugging my cat!

  • If I was an animal I'd be a sloth.
  • If I was a fictional character I'd be Luna Lovegood or Uncle Iroh.
  • If I was an element I'd be water.
  • If I was a season I'd be Autumn.

Therapy with Me

I am a pluralistic counsellor. This means that as a counsellor, I hold no expectations about what therapy should be, rather I believe therapy should be tailored to the needs and wants of the client.

As a practitioner, I can work in singular modalities or integrate various modalities to help clients achieve their therapeutic goals. This is part of an ongoing discussion to address where you are at and to offer any feedback on the process.

Therapy with me aims to be an open, inclusive, collaborative and creative space to explore anything that might be troubling you as well as allow you to speak freely about what you think and feel. I aim to bring out your Super You through the engagement and utilisation of both of our strengths and resources.

Therapy will move at a pace that suits your needs and you will be the priority during our time.

Training, qualifications & experience

I graduated from Abertay University in 2025 with a Masters in Counselling.

Since then I have committed myself to ongoing training in order to widen my knowledge of presenting issues and cultural contexts for counselling.

I have worked as a volunteer counsellor in Paisley for over 2 years, working with a mix of client issues such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, BPD, neurodivergence, racism, sexism, relationships, low self-esteem, existential crisis, professional burnout, people pleasing, boundary management and much more.

I have no prior experience outside of my voluntary work and so I remain professionally humble to the knowledge and expertise of my peers and theories as well as of my client's understanding and insights of their presenting issues.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I work in a pluralistic manner. What this means is that counselling is not a one size fits all and that the vast amount of resources and knowledge available to us can be tailored to meet your needs.  If your presenting issue is not present on my list, this does not mean I can't help.

Further information

While I am open to all therapies, I believe my four pillars are Person Centred, Existential, Narrative and ACT. I generally think about the world through these pillars and they have greatly influenced my practice.

With so much going on in the world today, I see a lot of benefit to engaging with existential ideas for a wider view of what is possible, developing an awareness of personal values to move in directions that matter most to you, telling or rewriting your story in multiple contexts to get a sense of repeating patterns and honour parts of your life that may have been hidden before.

All of which I believe are best delivered when the client feels safe and empowered in alliance with their therapist.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My counselling space is equipped with a variety of lighting capabilities. If you struggle with harsh lighting, need a brighter space or just want the space to look ambient, we can work together to meet your needs.
