Anna Jurek MA Reg. MBACP
41 Abbeville Road
59 East Dulwich Rd
I am a BACP registered integrative child and adolescent counsellor. I can help children and young people who are anxious, withdrawn, worried, sad, low, depressed or angry. A child's or young person’s difficulties may be triggered by events such as bereavement, divorce or separation in the family, bullying, trauma, transition or stress.
I offer a space in which a trustworthy relationship can be built, allowing a sense of safety to grow. Working together at the young person’s pace, difficult and confusing feelings, thoughts and behaviour can be explored. Using creative work and play provides a gentle and profound person centred avenue for expression, while the counselling relationship helps insight, self-awareness and self-care to develop.
I offer a free telephone consultation during which we can discuss the presenting issues. If you decide to take the process further, a face-to-face assessment will take place over three 50 minute sessions with combinations of parent(s)/carer and young person.
Counselling sessions are available: after school, early evening or Saturday. They take place at the counselling room at:
The Awareness Centre 41 Abbeville Rd, London SW4 9JX
or Goose Green Clinic 59 East Dulwich Rd, East Dulwich, London SE22 9AP
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and a Masters in Applied Psychology specialising in cross-cultural psychology; I have vast experience in working with migrant children and adolescents, including the impact of acculturation when country of residence has been changed.
In addition I have training in working with parents, helping them to better understand their children’s behavior and gain confidence in managing it.
In my approach to children and adolescents, I draw on person-centred and play therapy to discover the most adequate way to work with my clients’ difficulties. My work is also influenced by neuroscience and Shanker’s Self-Reg a method for understanding stress and learning self-regulation.
I am a professional member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP) and I adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics, maintaining confidentiality and following relevant safeguarding procedures where necessary. I hold full professional liability insurance and an up-to-date DBS (Disclosures and Barring Service). To ensure best practice, my work is overseen by a clinical supervisor.
Prior to my counselling career, I have worked for eight years in the corporate world and I have been involved as a creator and facilitator in many educational projects.

I work in a collaborative manner, engaging with families to gain a full understanding of the difficulties, and determine the most effective way forward. This may involve one-to-one sessions with children or young people; but also sessions just for parents helping them to understand their child’s needs.
My approach is flexible and adapted to the needs of the individual or family.

- Challenging behaviours/tantrums
- Exam stress

- Friendship problems
