MBACP, Humanistic-Existential Counsellor.

About me

Hi, I'm a Humanistic-Existential therapist working from the fields of Porthkerry Country Park, Barry.  I believe that in searching for a counsellor you are already making changes. But change can be the hardest thing to notice when you are feeling stuck or lost.

Which is why I work outdoors.

  • Could being out and moving (or watching the world move around you) offer some direction amidst the overwhelm?
  • Might being side-by-side with a therapist (rather than face-to-face) take some edges off social anxiety?
  • Would connection to nature be useful as you work out how you fit into the world or how you feel about the future of our planet?

Your sessions are sixty-minutes for you, your thoughts and your feelings. We follow your focus and move at your pace.

I am an LGBTQI+ ally and my work is neuro-affirming.

I believe in your ability to find your way forward, given the time to feel and express things your way.  I'll host an empathic, honest and trusting environment. I’ll be curious about your experience.  I'll provide a steady, trauma-informed presence.

In working together in this way, more clarity and choice can open up.

Routes are risk assessed and agreed to your preferences (whether that be hills or flat ground, a convenient bench, or a wheelchair accessible route). I will always be vigilant about your privacy. Before we begin, I will get your feedback on how to do this.

Porthkerry has plenty of benches and spots to pause in the deeper moments. It's helped me hugely in connecting with my feelings, connecting with others and with my place in the world.

When the weather is too challenging (or if you would like to bring the outdoors inside), we will use Microsoft Teams.

If you would like to find out more, do get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Next steps

A free 20-minute online or phone introductory chat. After this you will receive your contract with meeting and payment details. Each session is secured once payment has been received. I ask that payments are made at least 24 hours in advance.

What if I am overheard?

Your confidentiality is taken very seriously. Sessions are typically conducted in quieter, less populated areas to minimise the risk of being overheard. If you encounter someone during your walk, conversation can pause until you’re in a more private space. We will discuss in our first session how you might like to respond if you see someone you know.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing and footwear for potentially muddy walking. It’s also a good idea to dress in layers to adjust to changes in temperature and bring along a hat or sunscreen if it’s sunny. If it looks like rain, a light waterproof jacket.
