About me

In looking for a counsellor, you have already done important work in noticing your need, making the decision and the next step is reaching out.

My Background and How I Work

I am an integrative counsellor and coach with a background in arts and humanitarian charities. I support people managing the challenges and politics of those environments, which often includes working with loneliness, empowerment and community building. I have particular interest in the unacceptable angers and fears that can feel risky to explore alone.

In coaching, we might work together on more specific areas of you life, such as your career, with a clear goal in mind. In counselling, we might look at the bigger picture of your life, take time to understand your experiences and conflicts and what you might want to change. Often, but not always, people start with one and transition to the other.

I offer:

  • open-ended therapy
  • single session "reset" coaching
  • short-term coaching (4-6 sessions) with optional follow-up sessions

All sessions last 50 minutes.

The most common issues I support people with:

Anxiety: this can manifest in a range of ways, including catastrophising thoughts, aggressive behaviours, rumination and compulsions. I subscribe to the existential view that anxiety is a natural part of the human condition and that it should be met with kindness.

Culture shock: the excitement-fear-disillusionment-acceptance cycle of moving to a new place is one I know first-hand, and I am experienced in helping people take the first steps of moving to a new place, including to my own country and culture.

LGBT issues and non-monogamy: I am a fully affirmative practitioner and provide a safe space to explore hard-to-voice feelings and experiences as a result of being 'non-normative'. I am particularly interested in working with this in the context of finding and creating family.

Childhood trauma: this shows up in different ways and looking into painful parts of the past can be painful and take time. We are not here to place blame or try make you re-experience the past, only to change your relationship to what happened so it does not keep you trapped.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
