Integrative Psychotherapist (MBACP)

About me

Hi, I'm Alex, and I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist. I offer support through talking therapy in a way that provides my clients with a warm, safe, trustworthy space in which they can be entirely themselves and bring whatever feels important to them.

I work relationally as my foundation, meaning that I place a great deal of importance on the therapeutic relationship that we can cultivate together when be begin our sessions. I feel that the therapeutic relationship a client can build with their therapist can be the most important element to their healing, as they know they won't be judged; they won't be unsafe; they know I care. Working from that relational foundation, I bring in elements of Person-Centred and Trauma-Informed therapy, with influences from Cognitive-Behavioural and Psychodynamic perspectives to provide my clients with a range of support options to suit their individual needs.

I utilise different techniques and exercises from a Somatic background to support nervous system regulation and anxiety relief, such as breathing techniques, the Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), as well as other CBT-based exercises to support mindset change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BSc in Counselling Psychology; a Master's Degree in Integrative Counselling; a Psychological Trauma-Informed Diploma; an Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Diploma; a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Diploma; an Understanding Eating Disorders Diploma; a Grief and Bereavement Diploma; a Self-Harm and Suicide Awareness Level 2 certificate; a Level 1 and 2 Safeguarding Adults and a Level 2 Safeguarding Children certificate.

I trained Integratively so that I wasn't bound by one therapeutic modality and could offer my clients a range of support to fit their needs and individuality. I have worked with a range of client-presenting problems, such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Trauma
  • Sexual misconduct (rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment)
  • Attachment
  • Low self-esteem
  • Body image
  • Body dysmorphia
  • Disordered eating
  • Grief/bereavement
  • Relationship struggles
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Bullying

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
