About me

Welcome to Brighter Futures Personal Growth.

Are you feeling anxious, heartbroken, confused, stuck or overwhelmed? Perhaps you are trying to keep going after some kind of trauma, and struggling to recover. Or maybe you are going through a painful breakup. Or perhaps you are worried about your child or teen, and feel they need some help with an issue in their life.

I see adults and children from all over Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and beyond, and also offer Zoom sessions for adult clients elsewhere in the UK and overseas. I have been working as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist for almost 30 years - both in the NHS and private practice - and as an Executive Coach for over 12 years.

The majority of my adult clients are women and include senior executives, business owners, senior health professionals and high profile individuals in the public eye, seeking absolute discretion (entertainers, sportspeople, politicians and media personalities). I also see the spouses/partners of such individuals.

My clients are commonly battling anxiety or depression, or are experiencing relationship problems (often a separation or divorce), family problems or bereavement.

I also specialise in working with children and young people from the age of 5-18 who are struggling with any issue that is causing them to feel stressed, unhappy or anxious.

My business premises, Sunshine Barn, is a suite of beautiful, private, non-clinical rooms in converted farm outbuildings near Ashbourne. I have a dedicated adults' room, a fully-equipped play therapy room, a waiting room, a treatment room for complementary therapies, toilets, kitchen and large training/group therapy room.  The rooms are fully accessible, and look out onto our private paddock and offer easy access to nature and animals, known to promote feelings of wellbeing.

I am a fully qualified Level 3 Advanced EFT (tapping) practitioner. I am insured and hold enhanced DBS certification.

In my specialist work with children, I offer the option of Animal Assisted Therapy with my dog, Bertha. (My work in this field has been featured in 'Psychologies' magazine, Staffordshire Life' magazine and BACP'S 'Counselling Children and Young People' magazine)

I wrote a regular column for The British Journal of School Nursing entitled 'Counsellor's Casebook' and was a member of their Editorial Board for several years. I have been interviewed on BBC Radio a number of times, and my work has been featured in several magazines and newspapers.

I was one of three finalists in the Inaugural Towergate Care Awards, having been shortlisted from 140 nominees in my category.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
