Supervision details

Having been a Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Coach for over 20 years, I know how essential supervision is to sustain good practice throughout our working life. As your supervisor I am able to provide you with regular and ongoing opportunities to reflect in depth all aspects of your practice so that you can work effectively, safely and as ethically as possible. It is about helping you to sustain your personal resourcefulness to undertake your work with your clients. Discussing your Supervision sessions, I enable you to gain insight, as well as providing that opportunity, regardless of experience, to not only learn but to find even better ways to help your clients move forward. As counsellors and coaches, we are all at some time challenged by many ethical dilemmas along the way and the correct path is not always clearly marked; discussing these issues with me as your supervisor will ensure you maintain professional ethical standards. In addition and from my own experience I know client work can place us under undue stress if we do not recognise the symptoms. Therefore, as your supervisor I can help you notice anything going on for you that could lead to burn out and as a result enable you to put prevention strategies in place. In Supervision, I work with you in a number of ways using various models such as the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision. This model is popular not only in counselling and psychotherapy but also in coaching, social work and support work. The ‘seven eyes’ refer to seven different ways of looking at the client presentation and related relationships. I integrate this method of working with my own style of incorporating a coaching approach when appropriate and looking at  the four stages of learning (Four Competencies Model) and utilising IPR (Interpersonal Process Recall). The latter empowers you as a counsellor to understand and act upon your perceptions which you may not otherwise attend to. It helps you to increase your awareness of covert thoughts and your feelings of the client and self. You begin to deepen the relationship between yourself and your client in the here and now during supervision. Therefore, I look forward to working with you and to providing that safe and confidential supervision space for you. BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
