Being a therapist can be fulfilling, rewarding, frustrating and lonely – the list could be extended – and often supervision is not enough to replenish our own resources. Some patients/clients really “take it out of us" and it is not a question of how experienced we are, even though that helps.

I think, working with people in a relational way, using our own awareness and presence, we do need to look after ourselves.

In this workshop, we will look at how we can do that well and what needs are vital to staying healthy. In my experience, it is often difficult and shameful for therapists to seek support, since they should know... and the danger of being burnt out is on the cards.

Here are some questions for therapists (and anyone interested in taking care of themselves!):

  • How can I look after myself well?
  • What do I need to heal?
  • Where do I need to draw a boundary?
  • What risk is involved in taking care of myself?
  • Who might be offended if I say “no“?
  • What thoughts and beliefs would I have to leave behind, if I put myself first?

Feedback from three people who attended our 2016 experiencing workshop:-

"Silly me not to know what to expect from the weekend, the clue is in the title. Experiencing gestalt...it was a lovely experience."

"I wasn’t sure whether to expect therapy, explanation, discoveries, revelation, boredom or demonstration. I got all... and more. The workshop was full of possibilities for discovery and meeting, myself and others, while feeling supported."

"I felt so supported, welcomed and loved!"
