Men, intimacy and therapy
In this short workshop, we will be exploring intimacy and masculinity. For many men therapy is a unique, unusual and ultimately an intimate space. One of the reasons that therapy can be successful is due to the meeting of ‘intimate strangers’. Often this psychological intimacy can generate closeness, sexual fantasy and vulnerability in the male client and the male or female therapist. This workshop will create a space where as therapists, we can begin to openly explore unspoken thoughts and how best to manage them. The workshop will include input from me and delegate participation from you. I hope that most of the following pointers will be covered during this introductory workshop.
- What does intimacy mean to men and how do they show it?
- How does the therapist manage intimacy between themselves and the client?
- Exploring ‘the male code’ and helping men develop intimacy.
- Emotional restriction and the reduction of men’s expression of intimacy.
