About me

Hello, my name is Janine.

I am a qualified Psychotherapist, Supervisor & Trainer with UKCP Reg. MBACP Accreditation. I have been working in the field of Psychotherapy for 19 years and EMDR for nine years both in the NHS and in private practice.

My long term therapy practice is fully booked., therefore at the moment, I work short and medium term with people seeking EMDR therapy only.

My values are focused on holding an approachable, confidential and safe therapeutic space for my clients.  This shapes the way I am when working alongside people who are struggling with their mental and physical health.

I understand the sensitivity of opening up to someone new, I offer a gentle approach towards healing with supportive guidance such as; skills for grounding/stabilising yourself both inside and outside the appointments.

I believe that engaging in therapy is an expression of a commitment to yourself. With this, a purposeful approach to development and exploration of what you may want for your life.

EMDR is a mind and body therapy treatment which can have profound and positive outcomes.  The treatment involves the therapeutic relationship with safety and connection; then we would work through a timeline of events and finally we will work on a protocol form together, I will offer transparency of the process at each step.

I work with people who are seeking EMDR treatment for childhood or adulthood life experiences, with the following presenting difficulties:-

*One off traumatic event (possibly PTSD)
*Ongoing traumatic experiences such as abuse in any form (CPTSD)
*Mood disorders
*Bereavement
*Loss of employment
*Neurodivergent symptoms
*Sleep difficulties
*Chronic illnesses
*Relationship difficulties
*Confidence difficulties
And many more ...

These difficulties can often be remembered or lived through, often leaving people feeling 'bad' both emotionally and physically.

Memories can respond to many types of stimulus in life, such as; images, smells, sounds, tastes, the transitions of the four seasons etc.  These types of stimuli can impact on the way you can function leaving you not feeling safe or present in the moment.

EMDR has been proven to support healing with distressing experiences from the past; radically changing peoples lives into freedom from what was distressing.

I have witnessed many people experience change in how they feel and function in life.  This change is both empowering and enlivening for many.

EMDR is approved by the Nice Guidelines in the UK.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
