Second EFT International Summer School, 3rd-6th July, London, UK
www.eftinternationalschoollondon.com

For the first time in Britain EFT Trainers Jim Thomas, USA, and Karin Wagenaar, The Netherlands, will be coming to share their expert knowledge and skills with us. The second EFT International Summer School is, again, an opportunity to work with international trainers and prominent clinicians in the wonderful setting of London!

This exciting conference offers a platform for informing and furthering your knowledge and understanding of working within the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) model with couples and families in challenging situations. It will provide a forum to discuss, explore, debate and share your clinical concerns with renowned master clinicians and EFT experts.

Who should attend?

Open to all practicing clinicians working with couples and families, psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, including those in training, UK and International - EFT trained and non-trained.

Two streams of participants:

  • EFT Newcomers on 3rd July with Gulya Diyarova, London, UK, Certified EFT therapist and supervisor.
  • EFT Trained Stream 4th-6th July with Karin Wagenaar, The Netherlands, and Jim Thomas, USA, EFT trainers and supervisors.

EFT newcomers stream - 3rd July presentation:

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) in action, road map to emotional healing: An outline of the theory and practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy with couples.

In this excellent introduction to the theory and practice of EFT by Gulya Diyarova, participants will get a clear sense of what the EFT model is and its well researched effectiveness as a therapeutic approach. Gulya will walk participants through the model's stages and steps, showing how to focus on the attachment significance of a couple's struggle and distress, to stay gently and steadily with partners' vulnerable emotions and fears, and lead them into connectedness and a secure bond with each other.

EFT trained stream - 4th-6th July presentations:

4th July - EFT and Mental Health. Personality Disorder couples - Over-reactive and Non-responsive Clients.

Karin Wagenaar, The Netherlands will be bringing her experience as Clinical Director of an in-patient unit for people with severe personality disorders to talk about applying the EFT model to this population, a subject rarely discussed and presented.

In these couples an emotional connection is intensely longed for and at the same time is experienced as very dangerous and unattainable, often resulting in high reactivity and a loss of mentalising capacity. She will demonstrate and explore with participants how the slow, sensitive, steady and patient use of EFT can support this client group to regain regulation of chaotic emotions while its clear structure also supports the therapist to keep on track.

Master class - 5th-6th July:

Across the pond and deeper into EFT: Bonding events for withdrawers and pursuers: How to lean in and gain traction effectively in getting to blamer softening.

Jim Thomas, USA will run his highly acclaimed two-day master class, taking you beyond core skills training.

This will guide participants in:

  • How to be in the struggle alongside their clients and feel the difference between stage 1 and stage 2 work.
  • How to master the skill of collaborating with each partner's attachment system in this profound and insightful stage 2 work, going deeper into pursuer and withdrawer's specific positions and emotions in the attachment dance.
  • You will learn, through presentation, Jim's videos of real couple sessions, and role play, how to choreograph interventions that turn step 3 vulnerabilities into step 5 deep emotional exploration, so that a vulnerable and compelling request to have their attachment needs met in step 7 can be prompted, accepted and responded to.

School training approach:

Verbal presentations, video clips of real couple sessions with live commentaries from trainers, experiential exercises and role plays to deepen your understanding of the model and hone your skills. You are invited to ask questions and to get involved in discussions so you can make strong links between your learning here and your client work.

Registration for separate presentations is available.
