Hello and welcome to my profile. I am a qualified counsellor (Integrative) working in the Wadebridge and Bodmin area. I am a member of the BACP and have a passion for the work I do with clients.
When a client comes to counselling or returns after a period of time I recognise that they may well have taken their first step to recovery and acknowledge and encourage them to recognise this. For years I trained in Judo. The English translation of Judo is the gentle way and this has become my counselling ethos.
Judo is about movement and balance with real performance coming when we feel safe to fall and feel the movement and respond to it in a controlled way. Sometimes the movement can be sudden. Sometimes it comes with time. The moment I felt safe with my training is the moment I felt the movement and was able to balance accordingly.
I believe my greatest strength is my ability to provide a safe relationship which is built on trust and honesty and being real with clients.
I work ethically and adhere to the BACP ethical framework.
My personal values are however my greatest strength.
I attend regular clinical supervision which supports my therapeutic work.
I feel my training as an integrative counsellor brings considerable flexibility to my practice.
Training, qualifications & experience
Foundation Degree In Integrative Counselling (Worcester University)
Certificate in Counselling (Iron Mill College Exeter)
My recent experience has been working in a low cost counselling service which has brought me into contact with a wide range of clients and presenting issues.
I have worked with an addiction service where I have developed a greater understanding of addiction.
My personal life story and my previous professional experience working within the Emergency Services and prior to that the Military has contributed to my personal development in a way that supports my practice. I have also had experience of working with adults with Learning Difficulties (I prefer difference) who can in many cases struggle to express their needs verbally with this contributing to a greater awareness of the non verbal ways of communicating.
My learning is ongoing with me at present undertaking a BA level qualification to enhance my practice further.
