Supervision details

It is my belief that supervision is both a necessity and a gift.  It is to provide the kind of support that assists the maintenance of good practice whilst also continuing to broaden and deepen the work.  The exchange of ideas through a thoughtful reflective process is an important part of clinical practice.  I work psychodynamically looking at the unconscious processes of transference and countertransference issuing from the to and fro in the therapeutic relationship.  Essentially  we will look at the clinical material, what is happening in the consulting room and together attempt to gain understanding of the meaning that is carried within the interaction, so that the work can develop. As mentioned under 'experience' I have supervised many counsellors and therapists, both those in training and those who are qualified.  I also bring to my work as a supervisor the extensive experience and knowledge imparted to me by those senior practitioners who have supervised my clinical work over many years.  My Jungian analytical training enables me to observe through a devopmental as well as an archetypal lens incorporating psychoanalytic ideas alongside myth and symbol.  What I offer is supervision that carries a spirit of inquiry into the mysteries of psyche; to bring together that which is complex alongside that which is simple and play with the possibilities.   Experience:I offer group and individual supervision to qualified/trainee counsellors and therapists who wish to work psychodynamically and/or psychoanalytically. I have 14 years experience working as a supervisor of counsellors who have taken a counselling training with organisations including Wessex Counselling Service, Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, the University of the West of England, Wiltshire College and others. I also have experience in working as a training supervisor for Wessex Counselling Service and supervisor to the support staff at Penny Brohn Cancer Care. My original training as a counsellor was with Wessex Counselling Service an affiliate of Westminster Pastoral Foundation (London) and currently accredited by BPC.  I am also qualified as a Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist registered as an Associate Professional Member of West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy and UKCP.  My fee for individual supervision per 50 minute session is £45Group supervision is by negotiationIf you would like to arrange an appointment to discuss your supervision needs, please leave a message on my voicemail 07772 584726 with your name and number and a time to call you back.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
