Supervision details

As a Person Centred counsellor and supervisor I bring myself to the supervisory relationship in an authentic way. I am interested in the supervisee's experience of their client and the relationship they are developing with their client.

I have extensive experience of working with clients who present with risk. I aim to build supervisees' confidence when working with risk, exploring the nuances of each client's presentation, and working together to ensure safe and ethical practice.

My approach to supervision:

  • Initially to spend time considering together what the supervisee is hoping to get from supervision and to agree on a working contract. To explore expectations and concerns.
  • To provide a space for the supervisee to reflect at depth on their work with clients, and to bring their struggles and breakthroughs.
  • To give the supervisee the opportunity to reflect on their development as a therapist.
  • To consider ethical and professional issues in counselling.
  • To enable the supervisee to manage challenging or traumatic material and develop resilience.
  • To address possible issues around safeguarding clients.
  • To think about the application of theory to practice.
  • To reflect on the ‘here and now’ relationship between supervisor and supervisee

In my supervision practice, I draw on my extensive clinical experience in a range of settings including Primary Care, Higher education, Secondary Education, and the Charitable Sector.

I have worked with a wide range of client groups including young people, vulnerable adults with acute mental health issues and safeguarding needs, and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.

I held the post of Head of Student Wellbeing at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) for seven years, leading a team of eight counsellors.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I focus on empowering the supervisee in their therapeutic practice, and strengthening their connection to their values and inner experiencing.
