Supervision details
I am a qualified Counsellor and Counselling Supervisor. My core training was based on humanistic person centred theories and I am qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am a Master Practitioner in NLP, which supports work on changes of perception and thoughts. I am also trained in Hypnotherapy. I am an IEMT practitioner; this uses rapid eye movement to implement changes in thought patterns.
I have many years’ experience counselling adults, young people and children, which enriches my supervision practice.
I have worked as a counsellor in schools around the North West, supporting children from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4; helping them to explore their feelings through play and creative activities.
Over the latter years, I have been involved in setting up a young person’s counselling service within an established and highly respected women’s centre in Merseyside. I co-ordinated this successful service, supporting our dedicated volunteers and clients, both at the centre and our outreach counselling service with the Early Help Team in North Sefton.
My experience of this diverse age range informs and gives depth to my supervision practice.
As a supervisor I work in an integtative way from a person centred core, with the use of tools and methods from the variety of therapeutic models I have studied over my career, this enables a flexible way of supporting you within your own modality. I aim to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for you to reflect on your practice with your clients that will be both supportive and challenging helping you to grow in your practice as a counsellor.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
