Supervision details

I am a Highly Experienced Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor registered with BACP and COSCA.  I have extensive experience in a variety of counselling settings and worked with a wide range of people of different ages, social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

My training is integrative which means that I draw upon a range of different therapeutic models when working with Counsellors. I am able to offer individual or group Supervision to qualified counsellors as well as those in training. Supervision is there to reflect on client work as well as provide an opportunity to gain greater confidence in understanding the therapeutic relationship.

The relationship between the Counsellor and their Supervisor is fundamental and I would work to ensure that we developed a good, honest and open framework. I would be happy to meet with prospective supervisees for an initial exploratory session to get a feel for how we might work together.

My approach in supervision is to offer a professional, sensitive, respectful and enjoyable experience that feels safe to explore anything. I am also able to actively support your professional development.  What is clinical supervision? Clinical supervision is a collaborative process involving observation, evaluation and self-assessment building on the strengths and talents of the supervisee.  Supervision also supports the supervisee in holding ethical and professional standards to promote and protect the welfare of the supervisee and their clients.  Clinical supervision is something that is a very important aspect of counselling as it helps to ensure that the counselling services offered to clients are reaching their highest potential. It is a formal meeting in which therapists can discuss their work on a regular basis.  It is a chance to gain a little more insight from another experienced professional, but also an ethically important part of practising. At the most basic of levels, supervision means to oversee another individual.  Why is supervision necessary? In the UK, most professional bodies regard supervision as a necessity.  It is essential, both to protect clients and to improve the skills of therapists by working with them to be better equipped to help their clients.

Supervision exists for two reasons:

•    To protect clients

•    To improve the ability of counsellors to provide value to their clients.

Supervision protects clients by involving an impartial third party in the work of a counsellor and client, helping to reduce the risk of serious oversight and helping the counsellor concerned to reflect on their own feelings, thoughts, behaviour and general approach with the client. These opportunities will reflect on how the counsellor can relate to their clients, as well as garner insights from the perspective of another therapist, It also helps the counsellor to improve the value they are providing for their clients. What does supervision mean for confidentiality? A practice of supervision means that many details provided by clients are shared with people other than the counsellor who is concerned.

However, overall client confidentiality is still safeguarded because: Individually identifying information (such as a full name) is not revealed. Information shared in supervision is itself protected under a contract of confidentiality and normally may not be shared outside the supervision relationship.

This ensures that the information can’t be traced back to the individual that it relates to, and that information will not go beyond the relationship, except in exceptional circumstances. Who needs supervision? Any counsellor or psychotherapist, regardless of experience, will require supervision. A client who encounters a therapist working without supervision should properly consider carefully whether they wish to work with that therapist.

Some recent feedback

Roslin has been my supervisor for over a year now.  I had to change my supervisor of 8 years quite suddenly and I was very apprehensive about this change.  However, after meeting Roslin for an introduction I felt relaxed and looked forward to working with her.  We have supervision every month via Skype and it is something I very much look forward to.  Her wealth of knowledge and expertise as a therapist is very evident in our sessions together.  I find Roslin to be a very patient and skilled listener.  She is direct and challenging, which I feel is important for good supervision.  She challenges me enough to help me work out the solution for myself, but at the same time would never leave me stuck.  Roslin provides a very safe place for me to be honest and vulnerable without judgement, which helps me get the most out of my supervision.  I can honestly say I have grown as a person and therapist as a result of supervision with Roslin.   I highly recommend her as a Supervisor.

COSCA
College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSCA)

COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC.

It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
