Supervision details

I offer supervision for both qualified counsellors and counsellors in training. As a specialist working with children, young people and families, I have a wealth of experience to support you in your work.

For me, supervision is the safe, well-held and invaluable space where I can take my work; the joys, successes, rewarding moments which make this work so wonderful, but mostly my concerns about clients and how I am meeting their needs. Supervision supports me while I reflect on my work, helps me to explore my own process and challenges me to recognise any aspects of this which may be impacting in unawareness on the therapy. It also helps me if I am stuck, exploring the client with me, but also educating me on different approaches or strategies to try. It leaves me feeling nourished, refreshed and more confident, often excited to go back into the therapy room. It is therefore, a continuous source of both professional and personal development as I come away having learnt more about counselling, but also about myself.

The best supervision then, leaves me feeling, validated, confident and excited to continue doing the work, feeling like I have learnt but wanting to learn more. As with good personal therapy, I come away having felt heard and understood and gently challenged to recognise and consider aspects of myself or my work which might have been out of my awareness.

As a supervisor myself, therefore, I aim to create a safe and unique relationship, where you feel able to make mistakes, share successes, and empowered to genuinely explore your thoughts and feelings about your clients. A space where you are encouraged to trust your judgement and capacity to make effective choices in your work setting, where you feel able to ask for support honestly and openly and to explore new facets and ideas that engage and interest you. Through this, my hope is to help you develop your professional identity and to feel confident, professional and ethically sound in your work.

My current fees are £50 per hour. I offer a reduced rate of £40 per hour for counsellors in training.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
