Supervision details
I offer clinical counselling supervision to both qualified and trainee Counsellors. I am open to supervising Counsellors who are practicing with all relational approaches to counselling, and believe supervision is a vital tool for practitioner self care and development. Informed by a Person-Centred Approach, my aim is to develop safe and respectful supervisory relationships in which supervisees can explore their experiences, needs and challenges as Counsellors. I respect supervisees' abilities to make decisions about their practice, whilst offering useful supportive challenge. I am very well versed in the integration of theory and practice within the Person-Centred Approach. This includes both classical Rogerian practice and that informed by post-Rogerian developments in theory. Such understanding is derived from my own extensive experience, including 15 years as a counselling tutor. Since this included facilitating practioner qualification courses with integral counselling placements, I hold much knowledge of the range of services in which Counsellors work, and how to work effectively within their policy and procedural frameworks. My work as a counselling tutor has provided me with much experience in supporting development of trainee Counsellors. I have worked as a Counsellor and service co-ordinator in a number of counselling services, including those providing NHS Talking Therapies. Having undertaken the NICE approved Advanced Certificate in Counselling for Depression, I am open to supervising Counsellors working with this approach. Combined with my own extensive experience in private practice with individuals, couples and families, I feel the scope of my counselling experience offers much to my supervisees. My supervision qualification is a BACP endorsed Post-graduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision. I charge £50 per hour of supervision, so £75 per 1.5 hours. I practice from Hebden Therapy Centre, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, and also the Banyan Wellness Center in Burnley, Lancashire.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
