I am a BACP Senior Accredited Supervisor (for individuals).
My basic orientation in supervision is Person Centred. I trust you, the supervisee, to bring to supervision whatever you need to so you can feel supported and confident in your counselling practice. My agenda is your agenda.
I strongly believe that as a counsellor, the one relationship you cannot afford to compromise on is the one with your supervisor. I therefore strive to create a relationship in which you can explore the things you would rather nobody knows. In so doing I believe I offer you a relationship in which you feel held and heard and thus ensure maximum safety for you when working with your clients.
The combination of teaching, counselling and supervising I feel has enhanced my practice in all three areas. It has helped me articulate what I do, help others understand how theory and practice interlink and monitor my client work more effectively.
Gaining my accreditation as a supervisor (for individuals) in 2004 was the hardest qualification I have ever done. I had to demonstrate my understanding of how theory, ethics and practice inform each other and my work. I had to provide evidence that I actually practice what I think I do with written vignettes that my supervisees evidenced. I also had to demonstrate how I manage difficult situations.
I enjoy supervising - trainees, newly qualified counsellors, and experienced practitioners as well as people using counselling skills in allied professions. I find it a privilege to be entrusted by supervisees and to be a witness to their unique journey and development. Over the years I have supervised individuals working in the voluntary and statutory sectors, in specialist settings eg prison, and in private practice. I have also supervised people running groups and offered group supervision. I have supervised trainees from a variety of courses: person centred, integrative, dialogue. I also offer telephone supervision.
If you are looking for a supervisor I am happy to talk with you on the phone and to decide from there if you would like to come and meet me; or if you would rather come for an initial supervision session - for which you pay - so you can experience how I supervise and see if you and I feel we can work together. I am also happy to offer one off supervision sessions whilst you are either looking for a new supervisor or whilst your normal supervisor is on holiday or unable to offer you supervision.
