Finding effective interventions is usually a challenge. Silence can be a very intense experience for both the therapist and the client. Trained therapists listen with empathy and understanding; however, some clients may want more whilst some others need to feel the space. Interventions can add a dimension and texture to the therapeutic work, stretching therapy beyond a friendly ear.

As therapists, we are encouraged to think that silence is not an empty space, because it has its own purpose. We learn about the tension of silence as well as paying attention to the tension that silence creates.

So, how do you balance the pull and push to meet the needs of your clients through your interventions? How do you choose when to be silent?

In this workshop, practitioners will pool together and share their experiences and understanding of silence, and how to manage their timing of interventions.

Giovanni and Sam will facilitate and share their knowledge and experience by creating an experiential learning environment for practitioners to discuss limitations. There will be opportunities to consider some of the challenging dynamics when we think of interventions and silence, and practitioners will be encouraged to contribute and share their meaning around those.
