A child-friendly assessment – to be done with children.
I have worked with children and young people for the majority of my working career and mainly in education setting offering therapeutic intervention.
I have found it extremely important when working with young people/children and their families to get a good understanding of the child’s perspective on how they are experiencing education settings and how they cope in the world. I have found parents/guardian can have more insight to their children and children themselves get a better understanding of how they themselves experience the world around them.
The assessment is easy to share with education and can help both the child and the school overcome difficulties within reason. I have also found the assessment that when parents have been present to have helped parents and guardians feel more reassured or able to make a better-informed decision regarding what next.
I have devised this assessment so that it can help the therapist and the child to work together and gain a good insight and better understanding of `the distress they may be experiencing. This assessment is very good for use with children from the age of 6 right through to the age of young adults. I have sometimes used this with some older teenagers who have struggled with different transitions but possibly not understood why.
Within this assessment, I use a combination of therapies the assessment gives a good grounding and can help to plan goals that are inclusive of those people working with the child...
It is a 3 pronged approach
