Dr Kate Anthony is a leading expert on the use of technology in therapy, coaching and the helping professions. In this one-day workshop, she will provide presentations, question and answer sessions and lead group discussions in the following areas:
The uses of technology in helping professions
Delegates will learn how technology is being used in mental health services, from straightforward email to virtual reality environments. Delegates will start to conceptualise how they can add technological solutions to their client services.
Theories of why people turn to cyberspace for help
Delegates will learn some of the theory behind online behaviour (cyber psychology) and learn the importance of managing the online therapeutic relationship in particular.
Ethical considerations for mental health online
Through watching the presentation and group discussion, delegates will gather a sound understanding of some of the ethical considerations necessary to deliver a safe and ethical online service. Delegates are encouraged to bring their own questions for this section for Kate to answer.
Responsible social networking and the future
Delegates will learn the increasingly problematic area of social networking, the dangers of dual relationships being forged unintentionally, and the importance of having a social networking policy for clients before commencing therapy online or offline.

Kate Anthony qualified as a psychotherapist from the University of Greenwich in 2001, with an MSc thesis on the nature of the online therapeutic relationship. She has trained practitioners and organisations worldwide in online therapy for over fifteen years. She is co-editor and co-author of four textbooks on the subject, as well as numerous texts.
