What is gender?

  • What does gender mean to you?
  • What does non-binary mean?
  • Are you comfortable talking about gender with others?
  • Do you feel you have the knowledge and resources to adequately support someone who is dealing with gender confusion or even dysphoria?

Kirstie will facilitate a lively and informative discussion on this very important topic. The evening is suitable for both trainee and practising counsellors and members of the public who wish to expand their awareness of this subject. At the close of the evening attendees should have a better understanding of gender (perhaps even their own). It is not an in-depth training to enable a therapist to work safely with clients presenting with concerns surrounding their gender identity.

Kirstie is an accredited member of COSRT** and has undertaken specific training to work with this client group. She is lead tutor for gender diversity on the Cambridge Institute of Clinical Sexology Diploma in Clinical Sexology. Kirstie is a member of the Media Team for COSRT and was invited to sit on the National Memorandum of Understanding on Conversion Therapy group.

Ethical practice requires the practitioner to have adequate knowledge and understanding of gender and sexual diversity, and to be free from any agenda that favours one gender identity or sexual orientation over others.

* GSRD – Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity
** COSRT – College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists
