Implications counselling today. A workshop for people working with fertility issues.
In a fast-changing landscape of assisted reproduction treatments, with ever-increasing choices for family creation, it can be difficult to keep up with new developments. At times the role of implications counselling stretches our skills and resources in unexpected ways and we may be faced with competing needs. At others, the routine of the work may lead to complacency and dull our awareness. This one day workshop will give you the opportunity to take some time out to update and refresh your knowledge, to review your practice and explore the challenges facing the counsellor in the implications session.
In this workshop we will explore:
- Fertility preservation for single women.
- Speaker: Dr Zoe Williams, fertility preservation patient and GP.
- Fertility preservation for transgender people.
- Known unrelated donors and the future welfare of children.
- Being a sufficient and non-directive resource for people thinking whether to tell their child about gamete donation.
- Speaker: Olivia Montuschi, practice consultant, donor conception network.
- One hour/single session implications counselling.
- Accountability and feedback/records for the MDT.
The British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA) is the professional body that represents infertility counsellors in the UK. It publishes guidelines for best practice that are referenced as the accepted standards by the regulatory body (the HFEA) and works closely with the other major professional bodies in the field.
