A ten-day course in couples counselling for qualified counsellors with a minimum of one-year post-qualifying counselling experience.

Course Tutor: Dorothy Harte

Dorothy is an integrative psychotherapist (UKCP, Reg. MBACP) who has been working with individuals and couples for over thirty years. She has an M.A. in Integrative Psychotherapy and is currently the Head of Counselling for Alton Counselling Service. She is an experienced and intuitive trainer who has a reputation for delivering engaging experiential training courses.  

Dates: The 50hr course will take place over five weekends running from March to June 2021 (10 am to 4 pm)

There are a limited number of places available on this course and in the past, it has proved very popular; early application is therefore advised.

Course content

Day 1: 6th March
What is attraction? A look at attachment theory and attachment styles.

Day 2: 7th March
Relationships. What do we mean by marriage now? Stages of a relationship.

Day 3: 27th March
Working with relationships. A look at different theories - systemic, object relations and transgenerational issues.

Day 4: 28th March
The uses and meaning of sex in a relationship.

Day 5: 24th April
Stages of divorce. Kinds of divorce and revisit of attachment theory.

Day 6: 25th April
Loss and grief in divorce

Day 7: 22nd May
New relationships. Role of forgiveness. Emotional stages of development.

Day 8: 23rd May
Problems from the past - a look at abuse, shame and fear in the context of the couple.

Day 9: 19th June
Repeating patterns. Building an assessment interview.

Day 10: 20th June
Blended families. Family cultures and styles.

Cancellation policy

In the unlikely event that unforeseen circumstances arise and BCS has to cancel this course a full refund will be given. In the event of cancellation by the participant, BCS reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee as indicated by the table below. All requests for cancellations must be received in writing, with changes becoming effective on the date written confirmation is received.

  • 90 calendar days or more before you are due to start the course:
    Full refund (less admin fee of £25)
  • Between 60 and 89 calendar days (inclusive):
    50% refund
  • Between 30 and 59 calendar days (inclusive):
    25% refund
  • Within 29 calendar days of the course commencing:
    No refund given
