About me

"Our deepest fears are like dragons, guarding our deepest treasures" Ranier Maria Rilke

Starting therapy can be daunting. Perhaps you are unsure if you ‘need’ therapy, or whether therapy can help with your particular issue. Maybe you are struggling with feelings of shame, or trying to navigate challenging relationship dynamics, or would simply like to understand yourself more deeply.

I bring an attitude of curiosity and inclusivity to my practice, working from a fundamental belief that we all, no matter who we are or believe ourselves to be, deserve compassion and acceptance.

Creating a safe container for us to work within is fundamental to my practice, and we will work together to build the trust that enables you to feel secure enough to share your internal experience. I strongly feel that it’s in the darkest corners of ourselves, the parts we most despise and are ashamed of, that we discover true strength and intimacy.

I take an integrative approach to therapy, meaning I draw on multiple therapeutic theories. You are unique, and the specific challenges you are facing deserve a tailored and sensitive therapeutic response. I offer a trauma informed and non-judgemental space in which we can explore the different emerging themes that you bring.

I work in an embodied way, which means that I may invite you to pay attention to what is happening for you physically in our sessions and I make space for us to explore what these sensations may be telling us about your emotional landscape.

I have a particular interest in working with life transitions, be that becoming (or not becoming) a parent, navigating the ending or beginning of relationships or careers, or moving into a different phase of your life.

I also have experience working with addictions and the 12 step model.

I work both in person and online. For in-person sessions, I work from a private cabin in my garden in central Stroud. It can be made accessible for those with mobility issues, though access to the bathroom is via steps. Online I work via Zoom. For both types of sessions, I ask that we commit to a regular time and day to meet.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BACP and UKCP accredited diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling. I am a registered member of the BACP accrediting body. I completed my training in integrative transpersonal counselling at Re-Vision in London. I attend regular supervision with a BACP and UKCP accredited supervisor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
