About me

Hello, I'm Zaenia, from 'Understanding You', my Integrative Counselling Practice. I became a Counsellor after using the services of one myself years ago and understand how it is to sit as a client and empathise with the bravery behind your decision to contact me. Along your journey of 'understanding you' I aim to 'understand you' too, working in a non-judgmental, safe and ethical way. Together we will explore the issues you bring, in the hope you can shed light on your current feelings and reactions to them.

I am an Integrative  Counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As an Integrative Counsellor, I am flexibly able to tailor my way of working dependent on the needs of each client, drawing on Counselling approaches, such as Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis or my firm grounding of Person-Centred Therapy.

I have experience in supporting clients with issues such as low self-esteem, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, relational issues (eg partners and friends), attachment issues, chronic illness, bereavement, work stress and exam stress to name a few. I also have a good personal understanding of ADHD and Autism. I have had a varied client base to date, working with all ages from 18 upwards.

It is difficult to cover all areas here, so I offer a free confidential first telephone call of up to 20 minutes at a mutually convenient time to make sure we both agree we are the right fit together for your needs. Either call, text or email me here.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
