About me

I have been practising counselling/psychotherapy since September 2000. I obtained my postgraduate diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in 2002, my postgraduate advanced diploma in The Therapeutic & Educational Application of the Arts in 2012 and my postgraduate diploma in Parent-Child Therapy in 2015. I also obtained a certificate in online and telephone counselling in 2021 following 80 hrs of training during the pandemic.

My initial training was psychodynamic, which means exploring possible links between our current emotional reactions in relationships and our early life experiences. The variety of trainings I have attended are like different ways of working I keep in my symbolic toolbox. So I can apply these different techniques depending on the emotional needs presented during the sessions.

Your therapeutic journey can alter your early ways of dealing with emotional challenges in your current adult capacity. It can also help you to move towards a more fulfilling way of relating whilst feeling more confident about who you are, working towards realising your hopes. Generational experiences may come up for us to reflect on and make sense of in our sessions. Parent-child therapy can benefit adult parents and their adult children who wish to understand childhood traumas.

As a multilingual and multicultural person, my life and work experiences have been shaped by international dynamics, which nurture my understanding of being different and help me to connect to different cultures and related values on a deeper level. I am a bilingual speaker of Turkish and English as well as speaking German at an advanced level. I also speak Italian and Spanish at an intermediate level and I am a beginner in Korean.

I have had the chance to work with a variety of ages among my clients, ranging from 5 to 80+ which have been enjoyable and informative in different ways. For this reason, I am keen to continue working with different age groups and clients from different cultural backgrounds.

If the assessment session encouraged you to start with the weekly session routine, we would need to agree on a day and time for our online sessions. It would be important to have the sessions regularly, at the same time and on the same day. We would also need to discuss the duration of the therapeutic work.

We can reflect on whether brief therapy intervention or open-ended work would be beneficial for your emotional needs. For the therapeutic work to have a chance to develop we would need to respect the pace that would feel right for you.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to sharing one's experiences in a confidential therapeutic space. I aim to promote a non-judgemental, accepting, caring, respectful and compassionate approach. The therapeutic space is there to share, reflect and make sense of one's emotional experiences and possible reactions to the communication during the session.

I review our therapeutic work at regular times, as your emotional needs might change. This way I can offer you an opportunity to give feedback on your experience of our therapeutic relationship.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
