About me
Bringing people back to themselves.
To have a space where you can be truly heard, seen and understood, without judgement or having to be anything other than who you are can be such a powerful gift.
I believe that we can at times become so focused on looking after the people around us that we lose touch with ourselves. We can become disconnected from our needs, our emotions, our boundaries and even from who we really are. I want to help people reconnect with themselves and develop a deeper understanding of what they need in order to feel more whole and more at home in themselves and their lives.
I offer a warm, accepting and compassionate space where you can explore whatever is bringing you to counselling. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come. Sometimes simply having somewhere to slow down and begin making sense of what is happening inside can be the first step.
How I work
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches and tailor the way I work to you as an individual, rather than expecting you to fit into one particular model.
I believe our earlier experiences can continue to shape the ways we relate to ourselves and to other people. I am trauma-informed. I also use creative and experiential approaches, including sandtray, where this feels appropriate. You don’t always have to find the perfect words for something in order to explore it. Sometimes another way of expressing what is happening can help us understand ourselves differently.
What we might explore
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may be struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem or depression, feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, finding it difficult to set boundaries, or noticing patterns of people-pleasing in your relationships.
We might explore your identity, relationships, attachment patterns, life changes or experiences that have left you feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself.
Whatever brings you, I will meet you with curiosity and compassion rather than judgement.
You matter too
Many of us grow up without having our emotional needs fully recognised or understood. When the people around us haven’t been able to attune to us, we can lose touch with the belief that we matter.
We may learn to put other people’s needs first, to keep the peace, to be the one who copes, or to believe that love and acceptance have to be earned.
As adults, it can then be difficult to know - and truly trust - that we are okay as we are. That our needs are important. That we are allowed to take up space. That we deserve care and love too.
Counselling can offer a space to begin exploring these beliefs and patterns, and to develop a different relationship with yourself.
Training, qualifications & experience
- NCPS Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
- Foundation Certificate in Counselling - Level 3 Equivalent.
My training was integrative, incorporating Person-Centred, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis approaches. I work in a trauma-informed way and have a particular interest in attachment, relationships, emotional wellbeing and the connection between mind and body.
As part of my training, I completed a supervised counselling placement with a charity in Newton Abbot, supporting clients with a range of difficulties and life experiences. The service often worked with people who had been unable to access or had been refused support by other services, giving me experience of working with a diverse range of needs.
I also have previous professional experience in caring and people-focused roles, which has strengthened my ability to listen, communicate with compassion and create a safe and respectful environment.
I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
