About me
Welcome.
If you’ve found your way here, chances are you might be going through a difficult time, or perhaps feeling stuck in some part of your life. You might be wondering whether it’s the right moment to reach out for some support.
If I were in your position, I would be hoping to find a therapist who truly understands me, someone who can stay with me in my stuck places, support me through the pain, and help me find new ways of understanding my struggles, gradually opening the door to different ways of relating, behaving, and being.
With that in mind, I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself, in the hope that you’ll get a sense of whether I might be someone you can feel safe with on this journey.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am Dr Xia Feng, a registered Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), registration number PYL045948. My journey in this field began in China in 2011, and I obtained a national counselling qualification in China in 2016 as part of my early professional development. In 2018, I moved to the UK to pursue a Master’s in Psychology, followed by a professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, which I completed between 2020 and 2025.
Over the years, I’ve received rigorous training in different therapeutic approaches, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Humanistic and Existential Therapy. I have completed a year-long psychoanalytic course through the Tavistock Clinic and the Institute of Psychoanalysis, undertaken at different stages of my professional development.
I've worked across a range of clinical settings over the past decade, including the NHS (primary and secondary care), psycho-oncology services, suicide crisis interventions, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services, in both public and private settings. Over the past 9 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, religious belief systems, and life stages.
Alongside my professional development, I’ve also been a long-term client myself, which supports my reflective practice and ongoing professional development. I started therapy in 2016 and have continued ever since. I believe that to truly understand the vulnerability, uncertainty, and potential for change that therapy brings, one must have lived through them. There’s a well-known saying among therapists: “You can’t take a client somewhere you haven’t been yourself.” This rings deeply true for me. My own therapeutic journey has given me a deeper understanding of life’s complexities and has helped me shift long-standing patterns in how I relate to myself and others. It has been, and continues to be, a transformative process - one that informs the way I sit with my clients today.
My approach to therapy is flexible and responsive to your individual needs. We can work together to create a plan that feels right for you. For some, this may involve longer-term, relational work - exploring the deeper patterns that shape how you relate to others and to yourself, with the goal of building greater self-awareness and a deeper sense of fulfilment. For others, the focus may be on shorter-term support, developing practical tools to manage life’s challenges and overwhelming emotions. Both are possible, and we can decide together what feels most helpful.
I also offer therapy in Mandarin.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
