About me
Hello, I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist and counsellor (MSc, UKCP accred.) working from a quiet garden room in Coventry, as well as online. Looking for a therapist is a courageous step, and the task of choosing the right person can be daunting. I offer a free, no-obligation initial meeting (30 mins), either in-person or online, so that we can explore the possibility of working together. My primary focus is on helping you to thrive, to feel at ease, and to make sense of your past and present as a whole person. I believe that a safe, nurturing therapeutic relationship, and how we build that together, is central to any growth and change. I mainly work with people longer-term, but what that means is different for everyone, and we take it one step at a time..
My Approach
My integrative approach is ever-evolving and tailored to the unique person I am working with. I draw from and combine several different theoretical models, including psychodynamic, humanistic and existential, object relations, attachment theory, relational psychoanalysis, cognitive approaches, body psychotherapy, and energy psychology, and bring in various creative and somatic resources as needed. My core approach is relational-developmental, which means I am interested in how we develop a sense of who we are in infancy and childhood through our interactions with others, and in how these patterns can often be obstacles to our flourishing as adults. I am able to work with a wide range of issues, but have particular interest, experience and training in trauma (especially sexual violence and abuse), bullying, post-traumatic stress, neurodiversity (ADHD, autism, giftedness), life transitions and spiritual development, workplace and parental stress, bereavement and other grief processes. I often work with shame, anger, and blocks to genuine connection with others that can leave people feeling lonely, numb or unseen. I have experience working with a very broad range of clients in terms of age (18-80+), background, gender, race, religion, sexuality, neurodivergence, physical disabilities and mental health diagnoses. How different social, cultural and political contexts shape our experience as individuals in a collective is central to my practice, and I regularly work with people for whom English is not their first or only language.
I am based just off the A46 in the South West of Coventry (near Warwick University), within easy reach of local bus routes. There is free off-street parking.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling (Distinction) from the University of Warwick. During my four-year training (which entailed 150+ hours of personal therapy and 500+ hours of clinical practice), I worked as a counsellor at Coventry Centre for Rape and Sexual Abuse (CRASAC), The Shakespeare Hospice in Stratford-upon-Avon, and Queen Alexandra College, a national college for young adults with autism and/or physical disabilities.
I am committed to regular CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and clinical supervision. I have done recent training in AIT (Advanced Integrative Therapy, an energy psychotherapy similar to EMDR) and sensorimotor approaches to psychotherapy.
I am a full accredited member of the UKCP.
My background and ongoing parallel career are in academia, in the field of Latin and Greek literature (MA, MPhil, Cambridge; PhD, London). I have also practiced Reiki (a Japanese energy-healing practice) since the mid-1990s, and qualified as a Master practitioner in 2021.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Universities Psychotherapy & Counselling Association
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
