BSc. (Hons) MBACP (Accred) Counsellor & Psychotherapist

About me

Searching for a therapist can be a daunting task, you may feel doubtful, worried or confused by terminology. Will the therapist understand me? Will they be able to help? Will I feel comfortable? These are important questions that I can help you answer. I do this by offering a free 10-minute phone call to answer any queries or questions you might have, and as an opportunity to get to know me a little bit too.

I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor/Psychotherapist, I work with all ages, genders and races. I offer a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space where my clients can explore the issues affecting their lives. I use the psychodynamic framework, which suggests that an individual’s problems may be linked to experiences or traumas that occurred earlier in life. This helps my clients better understand and work through their problems, provides insight into themselves, and offers hope and change for the future.

Building a good therapeutic relationship is the foundation of psychotherapy. I am an active therapist who enjoys getting to know my clients, understanding them, their struggles and what they wish to achieve. This ensures that my approach is personalised to each individual I work with. I see counselling as a dynamic process through which one not only shares their problems but also celebrates their triumphs and successes. Understanding that no two people are the same, I offer a professional space where laughter and joy are welcomed.

I am a Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behaviour Therapist. I predominantly practice Psychodynamic therapy; however, I will incorporate CBT skills and techniques to help my clients get the most out of their therapeutic experience.

I work with all ages, genders and races. I am experienced in working with neurodivergence and am happy to make adjustments if required. I provide both long-term and short-term therapy. I aim to help my clients recognise their strengths and work towards real change that enables them to live a happier, more fulfilled life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I studied at the University of London and am qualified in both Psychodynamic Counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

My background is in the health and social care field, and I have over 15 years of experience supporting people with substance addiction, mental health difficulties and other complex issues. I am passionate about working with underrepresented groups. I have worked for several counselling services throughout my career and currently work as a general Counsellor at the University of Nottingham and as a specialist trauma therapist for a male-specific service in East Sussex. I work with a diverse client group from all backgrounds and truly enjoy the richness that this brings to my practice.

I am experienced in helping my clients manage the symptoms brought on by depression and anxiety, and have also worked extensively in the following areas.

  • Complex childhood trauma
  • Adult trauma
  • Attachment/relationship difficulties
  • Racial trauma
  • Sexuality
  • Addiction
  • Gender dysphoria
  • Bereavement

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
