About me

Tracy Harvey | Psychotherapy in Stoke Hammond and surrounding areas

I believe that society is often quick to label people and ask, “What’s wrong with you?” I believe we should be asking, “What happened to you?”

Our early life experiences can shape how we see ourselves, relate to others and understand the world around us. These experiences can influence the way we respond to situations, navigate relationships and make decisions, often in ways we may not fully understand.

My work is rooted in helping clients explore the impact of trauma and stress, including how these experiences can be held in the body and influence our thoughts, feelings and responses in everyday life. Together, we can begin to make sense of patterns that may once have helped us cope but no longer serve us, approaching them with curiosity and compassion rather than shame or self-judgement.

I believe healing can begin when we feel genuinely seen, heard and supported, in a space where we can explore our experiences at our own pace and begin to develop a deeper understanding of ourselves.

How I Work

My approach brings together an understanding of the body's automatic responses to stress and trauma with a compassionate exploration of the experiences that have shaped us.

I believe that many of the ways we respond to the world have developed for a reason. Rather than viewing these responses as something that is wrong with us, we can begin to understand them in the context of what we have experienced.

I work with people whose lives have been affected by childhood abuse, neglect, sexual assault and other traumatic experiences. These experiences can continue to affect our sense of self, our relationships and our quality of life long after the events themselves have passed.

Couples Therapy

In couples therapy, I work relationally with you to explore the patterns that may have developed within your relationship, helping you to understand not only what happens between you, but also what may lie beneath it.

Rather than focusing on blame or who is right or wrong, we can begin to explore how each of you experiences the relationship, how your individual histories and emotional responses may influence your interactions, and what happens when these meet or come into conflict.

My aim is to create a space where both partners feel heard, understood and respected, allowing you to explore difficult feelings and conversations safely and without judgement.

Together, we can work towards greater understanding, more open communication and a deeper emotional connection, helping you discover new ways of relating to one another and explore how you would like to move forward as a couple.

Therapy offers an opportunity to explore these experiences, understand how they may be affecting you today, and begin to find new ways of relating to yourself and the world around you.

The therapeutic relationship is unique. Unlike the relationships we have with friends and family, therapy offers a dedicated space where you can explore difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences with someone trained to help you make sense of them. You do not need to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin.

My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic perspectives and work alongside you to find an approach that feels appropriate for your individual needs.

I aim to offer a therapeutic relationship built on compassion, respect, honesty and genuine understanding, with your wellbeing at the heart of our work together.

You remain in control of your sessions, choosing the pace and depth of what you wish to explore. There is no pressure to share anything before you feel ready.

Counselling provides a confidential space where you can bring whatever feels important to you, without fear of judgement. My hope is that, through our work together, you can begin to understand yourself with greater compassion, make sense of your experiences and discover new possibilities for moving forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
