About me

Welcome. If you've taken the time to click on my profile I'm guessing you have probably been struggling with distress for sometime. No doubt you've tried to understand and resolve it, maybe wondering if it's your job, your partner, maybe you just need a hobby. No matter what you change in your external world, any improvement in your symptoms is short lived. You've perhaps had the courage to consider that something in you needs to change but you have no idea what or how. In the meantime you've learned to cope so well that from the outside no one would know there was anything wrong. Regardless of what term you would use to describe your distress; anxiety, depression, stress, anger, low mood; you feel as though you are merely surviving not really living. At your lowest moments you perhaps engage in unhealthy coping mechanisms such as problematic drinking, binge eating, compulsive spending, drug use etc and it may be these issues that have led you to seek counselling at this time.

Over the 10 years I have been in private practice I have developed a wealth of experience working with these issues and have identified certain theories and approaches which appear to support positive change in my clients. These form the basis of my integrative practice.

Although you may have reservations about exploring your childhood, if your distress is long term there is a good chance that is where the roots of it lie. This does not always mean bad parenting or trauma; our childhood is where much of our "programming" takes place and as we mature that programming becomes unconscious which is why we lack awareness of the cause of our distress and are therefore helpless to change it. The theories of counselling I draw upon most often are helpful in raising self-awareness, challenging limiting beliefs and developing a stronger sense of self. The sessions are aimed at supporting and challenging you to know and understand yourself better and in the process find the answers you seek. If you think this may be beneficial to you please do not hesitate to contact me.

Prior to qualifying the core of my work involved using counselling skills to support people coping with addictions, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, emotional distress, bereavement, loss, relationship problems, abuse and trauma.

As my private practice has developed over the last 10 years I have reached a fuller appreciation of the impact of how we relate to ourselves, others and the world around us on our levels of happiness and satisfaction. Key to all of this is our knowledge, understanding and acceptance of ourselves.
