About me
Hi, my name is Jeff Young, and I am an accredited integrative counsellor experienced in several models of therapeutic interventions and an EMDR Psychotherapist. I also work as a senior counsellor within the NHS. I have 10 years of experience in the field, having completed several thousand counselling hours.
I am also a clinical supervisor working with other qualified therapists and as a counselling lecturer with experience of delivering CPCAB, Skills & Education Group and undergraduate levels, I specialise in supporting student practitioners.
I work 1:1 and in groups, both face to face, remotely via telephone and also online. I also utilise walk / talk methods when requested.
Along with general issues that can affect your mental health and well being, I work within the areas of trauma, abuse, bereavement and loss, depression and anxiety. As someone who is also diagnosed ADHD, I have an understanding of the issues that it can cause and have experience of helping individuals to understand and work with the stressors it can bring.
My own background is varied, and prior to becoming a therapist, my own history includes serving in HM Forces and Fire & Rescue Services. If you are ex forces or uniformed services or still serving, I know it can be difficult to reach out. Don’t be afraid to.
The bottom line is this. For me, therapy is not a one-size-fits-all bandage. It is a two-way process, and it involves you. The aim is for us to work together to look at ways to help you to deal with whatever it is that is holding you back from living your life. One thing that I do know is that therapy works, but it can only work with your input.
I do not have a miracle cure, that is for sure, but If you feel that you need to talk but not be talked at then maybe I can help. If you feel that an approach that looks at using a different form of therapy that is designed around your needs is something that could work for you, then feel free to reach out for a no-obligation chat and see where it goes from there. Absolutely no pressure. I also have a therapy dog, who is a Miniature Schnauzer called Pepper. She is 3 years old, and I am happy to bring her along.
If, after reading my profile, you feel that I don’t meet your expectations, then I wish you well on your search, and I am sure that you will find the therapist that suits you within this directory.
Best wishes
Jeff

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
