About me

Currently taking on new clients

Hi, I’m Suzanne and I’m a counsellor based in York.

If you’ve found this website it’s probably because you’re struggling in some way. It can be hard making that first step when you feel lost, overwhelmed, or consumed by anxiety. If you feel like you don’t know what to do next then counselling can help.

I am an Integrative, Person Centred Counsellor. Put simply, I believe that however hard life gets, each of us has the strength and resources somewhere within us to work through our problems. Sometimes, however, it needs someone to help us find that strength and be with us while we work through our problems.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, overwhelm, ADHD, or anything else that’s impacting your daily life, counselling can help.

Take that first step and get in touch. x

Training, qualifications & experience

I came to counselling after 25 years working in pressurised, senior leadership roles within media and banking. This honed my skills for mentoring, coaching and, above all, listening to people. It also taught me to hide feelings of overwhelm and anxiety from those around me, wearing a mask of calm when I felt anything but.

A cancer diagnosis in my forties slowly led me to re-evaluate my life. Having treatment and changing direction in mid-life was daunting, but it was an experience that was made so much easier by having the support of a qualified counsellor.

Being able to give voice to my fears and vulnerabilities helped me through the hardest of times. I’m now passionate about helping other people and I believe my own experiences have made me a better counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
