About me

I am an Integrative therapist and have Accredited status with the BACP. I specialise in anxiety, depression, low self esteem, trauma, work issues, relationship issues, loss, bereavement and boarding school issues. I have solid experience of working with young adults as well as adults. I believe that by providing a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which to talk I empower clients to explore their feelings and thoughts. I try to understand the deep emotional narrative so that the client can gain a better understanding of themselves. I offer face to face counselling as well as remote counselling and I do both short term and long term therapy.

My background is in law - I trained as a Barrister and worked in a Solicitor's office. I also worked in television for twelve years making Documentary films.

As an Integrative counsellor I believe each client is unique and no single modality suits all. This means that I work with Psychodynamic principles, Humanistic theory and Cognitive behavioural therapy. In my work I look at how your current feelings can be shaped by past experiences and attachments. I may also look at patterns of behaviour and how sometimes we get locked into them.  I believe that given a safe supportive space we are able to fulfil our potential and we can start making decisions from a position of self awareness. One of the most important things in therapy is the relationship between the therapist and client. I believe that I offer a sensitive, warm and thoughtful space for the client to find themselves. Having worked in the law and media industry for many years, I recognise the stresses and pressures for both creatives and for those who work in a more formal environment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified therapist and I have completed the Diploma in Integrative counselling - the Therapeutic Pathway. I am an Accredited member of the BACP which is a marker of competence and high standards. I abide by the BACP ethical framework. I regularly attend continuing professional development events and training. I carried out my clinical hours at Waterloo Community Counselling,  CCIWBS Bereavement Service and Caris Islington. I have considerable experience of working with young adults.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
