About me

I understand that taking the first step to find the right therapist can be a bit daunting.  I am a qualified and experienced therapist, registered with the BACP and my approach is collaborative and non-judgemental.

I can help you with a wide range of issues whether it's current, or has roots way back in your past.

Talking to a professional in a quiet, non-judgemental space can really help to make things clearer and get you back on track.

I offer a flexible service tailored to suit the individual, including video link, telephone, in person and walk and talk therapy.

My room in Haverhill is quiet, comfy and convenient with off road parking, if you prefer to come in person.  Equally, video counselling works well if you prefer to be at home.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling CPCAB Level 4

Certificate in Counselling Studies integrative Level 3

Certificate in Counselling Studies    Level 2

I came to counselling as a mature student after a career in business and then for many years in the hospice movement.  I supported individuals and families living with life-limiting illnesses caring for them in their homes as part of a mobile community team.  I then worked in family support, giving bereavement counselling to individuals and also to patients living with long term conditions.  I have also worked for a national online agency counselling adults over 18  for help with a wide  range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, low self-esteem, relationship issues, ADHD, and bereavement.

I am a person-centred counsellor which means I believe that a deep and nurturing therapeutic relationship will provide the right conditions for you to  harness your ability to self-heal and find the answers you are seeking.

My own life experience helps to inform my empathy for you.  I have had personal experience in my own family of suicide, domestic violence, abortion, pregnancy, birth trauma, divorce, complex grief, and long term life limiting illness.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I can offer you a professional and flexible service to meet your needs.  I have clients who come every week  and those who have busy lives and/or tight budgets and prefer to come fortnightly.  Some clients prefer on-line video counselling when they have a private space at home to connect from, but there are also lots of people who prefer the quiet personal space of the counselling room away from all of life's distractions.   There is never any obligation with counselling to sign up for a minimum number of sessions and I firmly believe that it has to be right for you and that the relationship is the key element that enables process and change to take place.

Some people find it easier to talk whilst they are out in nature, there's something about the calm feeling and peace that it brings and often the rhythm of body walking, that can ease anxiety.  If you think this might be you, I can arrange walk and talk sessions for female clients during the day.

I know that getting out of the house can be almost impossible for some people and I do offer a home visit service, after carrying out an assessment of the environment for my own safety and for the privacy of my client.
