About me
About Me
Hi, I’m Steve - a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I’m often described as patient, kind, and caring, with a calm and gentle approach that helps people feel at ease. My work is grounded in empathy, respect, and a genuine desire to support others through life’s challenges.
Those who know me well say I bring a sense of steadiness and warmth, combining thoughtful reflection with a touch of humour when it’s needed most. I value creating a space where you can feel safe to talk, explore, and begin to understand yourself more deeply.
I believe my open-mindedness and deep respect for others’ experiences help form genuine connections, creating an environment where people feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions.
At my core, I believe in people — in their strength, their stories, and their potential for growth. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, loss, relationship difficulties, or simply looking for a place to pause and reflect, my goal is to sit alongside you and help you find clarity, strength, and balance.
At Sitting with Steve – Counselling and Wellbeing, you’ll be met with care, empathy, and the reassurance that your journey is respected and supported.
My Approach
As a pluralistic therapist, I don’t stick to just one model. Instead, I bring together different approaches — CBT, psychodynamic, and person-centred — so we can shape the sessions around you. This means the focus is always on what feels most useful, whether that’s working through a specific issue, exploring deeper patterns, or simply having the space to reflect and breathe.
Why I Became a Counsellor
My path into counselling started with my own struggles. During a difficult time in my life, talking things through with a counsellor helped shift my perspective. It gave me clarity, and a sense of strength I didn’t know I had. That experience had a big impact on me and eventually led me to do this work myself.
How I Work With You
Counselling is about you — your story, your struggles, and your hopes. My role is simply to walk alongside you. Together, we might explore deeper patterns, work through something specific like feelings of anxiety, depression, grief, or sit with feelings that feel overwhelming. I've also supported people navigating low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, stress, or feeling stuck and uncertain about the next steps.
We’ll work in a way that feels right for you. Some days that might be talking things through and making sense of patterns, other days it’s simply having a safe, supportive space to reflect and be heard. Whatever brings you here, the focus is on what feels most helpful in the moment.
Sessions & Availability
I offer counselling sessions in-person, online, or by phone — whatever feels most comfortable for you. However we meet, you’ll find a calm, supportive space where you can talk freely and be met with empathy and care.
I currently have availability for new clients and also offer a free initial phone consultation. This gives us a chance to connect, talk about what brings you to counselling, and see if it feels like the right fit before committing to ongoing sessions.
A Warm Welcome
Whatever brings you here, you’re welcome, just as you are.
