About me

Hi, I’m Sonia,

I’m an Integrative Counsellor, EMDR Therapist and Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). Prior to my private practice, Brighter Tomorrows Therapy, I have 19 years experience working within the NHS supporting Healthcare staff.

I understand life can become challenging and overwhelming at times and seeking the right help and Therapist can feel daunting. My clients have described me as having a sense of calmness and deep level of compassion enabling them to feel heard and understood at their most difficult times. I offer a safe, empathic and respectful space to find your unique way of expressing yourself and tailoring my approach to best suit your individual personality and needs.

At your pace, we can explore your feelings and troubles with a deeper level of self discovery and personal insight. I will help you to navigate through any difficult times and to have a greater understanding of yourself and others. Empowering you to work towards any desired change, to thrive and live a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life.

I am committed to helping my clients have a positive experience and believe the relationship is key to the success and rewards of any therapy. I invite you to get in touch, for a free no obligation, 15-20 chat. This gives us the opportunity to discuss how I can help, answer any questions you may have and most importantly to see if we feel comfortable and at ease with each other.

Training, qualifications & experience

During my own journey over the past 19 years, I have gained a wealth of experience and had the privilege to share individual therapy journeys with a wide range of age and diversity. I’ve taken many opportunities to expand my skills and knowledge to become an experienced Integrative Counsellor.

This means I can draw from a range of therapeutic modalities, including;

  • Person-Centred
  • CBT
  • Trauma Informed
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Mindfulness

My time in the NHS gave me the opportunity to develop a workplace specialism and experience working with a range of issues affecting daily lives and functioning of the Healthcare staff I supported. These included (amongst many others);

  • Anxiety/stress
  • Depression
  • Workplace bullying
  • Workplace investigation processes
  • Work absence and phased return
  • Burnout
  • Redundancy/redeployment
  • Financial pressures
  • Bereavement/loss
  • Relationship difficulties/separation/divorce
  • Chronic health conditions
  • Fertility issues/miscarriage
  • Menopause

I am also a qualified EMDR Therapist and have worked within the NHS using EMDR to help clients heal from trauma.

I draw on all of this experience and aim to offer a unique therapeutic experience to all my clients. I am dedicated to continued professional development and as an Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), I adhere to their Ethical Framework, Code of Practice and Confidentiality.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
