About me

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression or low self-esteem? Maybe you are experiencing difficulties with a particularly stressful relationship and don't know where to begin to make it right. Perhaps you are feeling disconnected and have lost sight of your Self. Have you been told you’re ‘too much’ when actually you don’t feel seen, valued or enough?

Hi I'm Siobhan, an experienced BACP registered therapist based in Norwood Junction and online. Many of the *people I work with have spent years putting others first, people pleasing, hiding how they truly feel or feeling responsible for how those around them feel. Often there’s a history of emotional neglect, difficult relationship dynamics, and unprocessed trauma. If this resonates, It's no wonder you are anxious and overthinking, or unsure of who you are beneath all the roles you play.

About Me

I'm a regular human first: I love music, films, art, reading - and I’m mad about dogs. I’m also in therapy myself.

I worked as a teacher before retraining as a Counsellor, so I especially understand the pressures you may be feeling in the lead up to results month. During those years, I faced my own challenges; I didn't know which way was up at some points. This led me to therapy which helped me see that choices I made were keeping me stuck and unhappy.

Those experiences shape the way I work today: I know how hopeless life can feel when you’re caught in cycles that no longer serve you, and I’m passionate about the benefits of therapy and how it can change lives.

I also bring many years of experience supporting people in 12 step recovery so if you're struggling with that pain and shame: I see you, and I provide a completely understanding and nurturing space to explore these struggles.

What are sessions with me like?

I’m not what you may think of as "typical therapist.” I'm down to earth with a sense of humour, not silent and passive. You don’t have to censor your words, hide your feelings, or hold back your humour or anger. If you need to rant, cry, laugh or swear - it’s all welcome with me! You can kick your shoes off and relax - clients often say it's a relief to feel safe enough to be themselves with me.

In our sessions, we'll take time to understand your relationship patterns - how they’ve protected you, and how they might now be keeping you stuck. Exploring past experiences is really useful in seeing how they shape your present relationship dynamics because it helps explain why you keep finding yourself in relationships which don’t serve you. I won’t be regurgitating so-called 'self-help gurus' - I'm allergic to buzzword phrases such as ‘think positively' or ‘let them.' (Ugh)...

Sometimes we may get creative if that is more your thing, or use grounding techniques to help with regulating our nervous systems. Essentially though, I tailor the therapy to your needs; you are front and centre of this process at all times.

*I am committed to ensuring my space is an inclusive, anti-oppressive environment and I warmly welcome everyone regardless of gender; belief; age; background; identity; cultural heritage and ability.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
