About me

Hello, I’m Sharon. I am a naturally caring and supportive person who has a love of helping and connecting with others. I have extensive experience in supporting my clients with grief, bereavement and loss, alcohol and drug addiction, ADHD, ASD and mental health, as well as an extensive list of other areas I work with. Please note, I do not offer couples counselling.

I offer a general counselling service for adults,  counselling is about helping you make sense of your thoughts and feelings. I will provide you with a non-judgmental space where I hope you will feel comfortable to talk about what is on your mind; we can explore together your thoughts, feelings or anything you are struggling with in your life.

I am trained to integrate different counselling theoretical approaches within my work, some of these are person-centred, psychodynamic and existential. This means that depending on your personal needs and requirements, I can be flexible and adapt to methods that can work for you. I sometimes bring Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and creative ways of working into my therapeutic practice.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Farnborough on a Thursday afternoon and Friday evening, it is a 5 minute walk from Farnborough train station and on-site parking is free. Sessions are up to 50 minutes. I am flexible regarding times and days for telephone and online video counselling.

I hold a BSc (Hons) Degree in Therapeutic Counselling and am a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) who are a professional body for counsellors and psychotherapists practicing in the United Kingdom. I work within the BACP professional Ethical Framework, which means keeping myself and my clients safe by committing to their professional standards and good practice guidance for the Counselling Professions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work with clients who have experienced various different losses in their lives. Grief, bereavement and loss can affect you emotionally, physically and spiritually and may bring up memories of other painful or difficult endings in your life. I am a recommended Pet Bereavement Counsellor with Dignity Pet Crematorium; pets create such a unique loving connection with us and losing a pet can be hard for the owner due to the close bonds that are made, sometimes it can seem difficult to grieve for a pet due to attitudes of others.

I work with individual adults 18+ who are concerned about their drug or alcohol use and mental health, and individuals affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use and mental health. We explore past and present life events, work with difficult thoughts and feelings and develop strategies to improve the clients mental health and wellbeing.

I provide counselling to young people aged 12-24 through Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with Mindworks Youth Counselling Service. We talk about anything that is worrying them, for example, relationships, families, drugs, pregnancy, sexuality, stress, bullying, feeling low, anxiety, depression or anything else.

I am a BACP Spirituality Member. Spirituality encompasses belief, faith, religion and other ways in which we might experience a deeper connection to and appreciation of self, others and the environment. Difficult times in our lives can evolve into a journey marked by spiritual awakening.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
