About me

If you’re looking for a down-to-earth therapist, then look no further!
I’m Sharon, a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, certified EMDR and DBT therapist, and trained clinical supervisor. I’ve worked within health and social care for over 20 years, including mental health settings and substance misuse services, so I’ve seen first-hand just how complicated life can sometimes become.

I know that reaching out for therapy can feel like a really big step. You might not even know exactly what’s wrong — you might just know that you’re struggling, feeling overwhelmed, stuck or that things don’t feel quite right.

My aim is to give you a safe, calm and completely non-judgemental space where you can be yourself. There’s no judgement, no expectation that you have to have everything figured out, and definitely no expectation that you need to fit into a particular box.

I’m a bit of an “out of the box” therapist
I don’t believe therapy should be about finding a diagnosis or label and then following a set formula. You are you, and what works for one person might not work for someone else.

I work integratively, which means I use different approaches depending on what you need. This can include psychotherapeutic counselling, EMDR, DBT and somatic/body-based approaches.

I’m interested in the whole person — your thoughts, emotions, experiences, behaviours and what is happening within your body too. Sometimes our bodies tell us things before our brains have even caught up!

Neurodiversity matters too
I’m also open about the fact that I am undiagnosed AuDHD. My own experience has given me a different understanding of how a neurodivergent brain can work and how exhausting it can be when you’re constantly trying to navigate a world that doesn’t always make sense to the way your brain works.

Of course, everyone’s experience of neurodivergence is different, and I would never assume that my experience is the same as yours. But I understand some of the frustrations that can come with feeling different, being misunderstood, masking, becoming overwhelmed and wondering why things that seem easy for other people can feel so difficult for you.

I’m particularly interested in helping people understand why their brain and body respond in the way they do, rather than simply telling them they need to change.

What can we work on?
I have experience supporting people with:

Trauma, PTSD and complex trauma
Anxiety, stress and overwhelm
Emotional regulation difficulties
Neurodivergent-related struggles
Low mood and depression
Relationship difficulties
Substance misuse and recovery
Feeling stuck or unable to move forward
Difficult experiences that you may have carried for a long time
We’ll work together rather than me sitting there telling you what you “should” be doing. Sometimes we might talk, sometimes we might use practical tools, sometimes we might look at what’s happening in your body, and sometimes we might use EMDR or other therapeutic techniques.

There isn’t a set way that therapy has to look.

I’m a firm believer that you’re the expert in you. My job is to help you understand yourself a little better, make sense of what you’ve been through and work out what you need to move forward.

Alongside my therapy work, I also provide clinical supervision and training for other professionals.

If you’re looking for a therapist who is professional but also human, who can laugh with you, be honest with you and doesn’t believe that everything has to fit neatly into a box, then perhaps we might be a good fit.

And if you’re not sure, that’s okay too. Sometimes the first step is simply having a chat and seeing how it feels.
