About me

I am a BPC Registered Psychotherapist offering short or long-term in-person and online sessions from therapy rooms in Hackney, London.

I believe that we all at some point find ourselves at a place when we need to talk, be listened to,  be heard and understood by someone other than those who are close to us. To do this, I provide a safe and confidential space where we can think together, to identify the past and present issues that affect you now and, together, develop the awareness and strength that will allow you to make meaningful and lasting changes in your life.

I am able to offer therapy in both English and Turkish and have more than 20 years experience of working with patients and clients, from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, in the voluntary sector, the NHS and private practice. I work with individuals with varied emotional needs, to build the understanding, resilience and confidence necessary to identify and move through personal issues, including past and recent trauma; difficult relationships; anxiety; depression; loss; life and/or work challenges; or, simply, a general sense of feeling stuck. I also support people navigating social, cultural or migration-related challenges.

My approach is rooted in psychodynamic psychotherapy, a collaborative process where we work together to explore how past experiences, unconscious patterns and relationships, may shape the way you feel and respond today. Because we all carry different cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and life experiences, I also place an emphasis on intercultural therapy. This means I pay close attention to how your heritage, identity, and social contexts  influence your emotional world. Whether you're navigating family expectations, stigma around mental health, or the challenges of daily living, therapy can provide a safe space to explore these experiences, without judgement.

I understand that reaching out can be a difficult first step and I offer a free 20min consultation to explore how we may work together. There is no pressure to continue therapy with me if you don’t think we are a good fit.

Please feel free to contact me anytime. All correspondence is confidential and I aim to respond to all queries within 48 hours.

I have also worked with many students beginning their training journeys, therapy or supervision, and always have slots put aside for this purpose.

Before becoming a therapist, I studied a BSc in Engineering, in Ankara, Turkey, and painting at the Art Students League in New York. My own varied experiences have both broadened my outlook and deepened my belief that every person’s story matters, that it needs to be heard—and that moving forward begins in a relationship built on trust, respect, and understanding.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have more than 20 years experience of working with clients and patients in individual, group, couple and family settings.

Between 2003 and 2018, I worked with Freedom From Torture, London, a human right organisation, as a Psychological Therapist and Group Therapist in individual and group settings. In addition, I developed therapeutic activity groups, including a group with ‘Arsenal in the Community’, and also delivered training programs to diverse organisations on how to work effectively and sensitively with this client group.

As a therapist at Nafsiyat Intercultural Therapy Centre, London, I worked directly with clients from the Turkish speaking communities, again in individual and group settings and also co-facilitated groups for therapists and medical doctors on how to challenge the stigma of mental health in the communities.

In 2012, I joined the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust Hackney Primary Care Psychotherapy Consultation Service, assessing and working with clients with very varied backgrounds and experiences also in individual and group settings. I have worked directly with GP Surgeries and have supervised and continue to do so trainees and staff at organisations that offer services to support diverse client groups in moving forward in their lives.

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
