About me

Counselling is about creating a safe, relaxed and informal space where you feel comfortable to talk. We all see the world though our own experiences and have developed our ways to cope. Being able to learn about a client’s life is a huge privilege, one that allows me to work with every person in a way that suits them.

I have worked with end of life care , bereavement and loss and understand this comes in many forms. It can be the death of a loved one , the loss of your health, unemployment and redundancy, the loss of a pet , children leaving home ,divorce or relationship breakdown.

I come from a farming background and initially qualified with a degree in Countryside and Environmental management . I worked initially for for the then Ministry of Agriculture and then for agricultural research organisations.  I realised that whilst nature and the environment are my passions I wanted to work with people in a less corporate environment .

For 25 years I supported older people to remain at home when becoming frail, they taught me to meet people where they are in life, with kindness, no judgement and often with humour. I was lucky enough to be elected to the local Council and have had a varied decade representing residents both locally and Nationally . Through leadership and management courses I realised that I wanted to train to become a Counsellor and use my skills and life experiences to support others through whatever challenge they maybe facing .

I have had the pleasure of working with people in a supportive capacity for 35 years and find that we are all have something in common, no matter our backgrounds. My training, but also my life experiences, allow me to provide you with a space where you can relax and take the time to explore what it means to be you. People have said I am down to earth , calm and easy to be around .

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
