About me

I'm an Independent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor specialising in trauma informed counselling. I use relational approaches in our therapeutic relationship to support your plans for self understanding and change. I offer a free half hour initial consultation to see if I am the right counsellor for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor at the University of Warwick and completed an accreditation programme.

I hold experience as a generalist counsellor, but specialise in sexual trauma counselling. I worked previously in a rape and sexual assault long/short term counselling service. This included working with adults who experienced sexual abuse as children and those that experienced sexual assault and rape as adults. I offer sensitivity and patience in addressing, at your pace, the trauma and remembrance of such assaults on the body and flash backs.  Dissociative process might be present with memory gaps that add greater confusion.

Often in sexualised trauma counselling, you may have existing mental health diagnoses. Here I work with you underneath that label in a trauma informed way. This helps to address difficult feelings such as anger, fear and shame, and moves towards a position of understanding so called 'negative' emotions differently. Enabling them to be accepted and used for your benefit to fully develop your sense of self, self acceptance, and helping you to be who you truly are and want to be.

I work in a positive psychology frame which means working with you to build on your strengths and capacities to shape your life how you want it to be, now and in the future.

I have a special interest in nerodiversity and disability, this having been a foundational theme in my working career. I am a strong advocate for social models of thinking about equity and access where difference and disability plays a part.

I am a qualified and registered Social Worker and am registered with Social Work England. I no longer practice but hold experience in working with children and families that have experienced all forms of harm - drug and alcohol misuse, domestic violence, poverty, safeguarding and work to support relationship building and repair family relationships.

I hold experience of working in a university counselling service as a Psychological Therapist and addressed work with suicide ideation and self harm, managing stress and life changes.
