About me
Welcome. I'm Sarah Burnell, a BACP-registered psychotherapist providing integrative counselling and psychotherapy in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, and online across the UK.
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons, and each person's experience is unique. You might be struggling with grief, bereavement, or loss that feels overwhelming. Perhaps anxiety is affecting your ability to live your life fully, or relationship difficulties are leaving you feeling stuck or alone. Life transitions, whether that's retirement, becoming a parent, or any other major change, can bring unexpected challenges.
I work with adult individuals from all backgrounds. I have experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and those who are neurodivergent, understanding that these aspects of identity can bring particular challenges in a world that doesn't always make space for difference. I also have experience supporting older adults navigating the unique concerns that come with this stage of life.
I have particular experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma, including domestic and sexual abuse. Whatever you bring to therapy, we'll work at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
Before we begin working together, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. This is an informal chat where we can discuss what's bringing you to therapy, answer any questions you have about how I work, and see if we feel like a good fit for each other. There's no pressure or commitment, just an opportunity to see if this feels right for you.
Further information
I'm an integrative psychotherapist, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches, tailoring my support to your unique needs, goals, and experiences.
Person-Centred Therapy
At the heart of everything I do is a person-centred approach. This means you lead the sessions and we explore what matters most to you. I'm not here to tell you what to do or give you answers, but to provide a safe space where you can think things through and find your own way forward.
Psychodynamic Therapy
I also use psychodynamic approaches to help you understand patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and relationships. Sometimes our past experiences shape how we respond in the present, and exploring these connections can bring real insight and change.
Somatic and Compassion-Focused Work
Our bodies hold onto stress and trauma in ways we're not always aware of. I use somatic techniques to help you notice and work with what's happening in your body, alongside compassion-focused approaches that help you develop a kinder relationship with yourself.
