About me

I work from home in a comfortable setting, with off road parking, about 10 minutes from Halstead. Colchester, Cambridge and Chelmsford are all around 40/45 minutes away. I am a psychodynamic counsellor offering open ended and short term face to face work with individuals.

Finding the right person is important. So I offer an initial session of up to an hour and a half (same fee as 50 minute session). This gives us a little more time to see if this is the right type of therapy for you and whether you feel comfortable talking with me about your thoughts and feelings. If that doesn't feel right, we can stick to the 50 minute session. In some instances, we may decide to meet for a second consultation session. I encourage people to then give it some thought before making a commitment to working together.

My preference is to work face to face as I feel that a lot can be missed online. However, there may be occasions where an online or telephone session may be useful and I am open to considering this.

Once the work starts, we will meet weekly, at the same time and day each week for as long as the work continues to be useful. I charge for sessions missed by you as this is time that has been put aside for you. Wherever possible, I prefer to work towards an agreed-upon ending date, rather than ending abruptly.

I have a small number of sessions available for a reduced fee for those on a low income.

Training, qualifications & experience

A counselling session provides a safe space for us to think together about what is troubling or concerning you and to explore thoughts and feelings. Psychodynamic thinking makes links and connections between the past and the present to help make sense of what is going on in the here and now.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Registration number 83157.

I have had many years of experience working in an NHS hospital setting as well as in private practice.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
