About me

Hi, I'm Sam, a qualified, experienced counsellor working in Ditchling and serving the surrounding areas of Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and the villages of Mid Sussex. I also provide therapy online and by telephone.

I’m passionate about supporting you to reach your full potential, to overcome the challenges you face and to find balance in your life.

I know from my own experience that life can be very challenging and seeking out the help and support you need can feel difficult, even scary. Do you feel stuck? Are you struggling to cope? Do you suffer with anxiety? Feel sad, lonely or depressed? Do you want to make changes in your life? I'm here to help you. I offer a FREE initial, no obligation telephone consultation so I can get an understanding of what has led you to counselling and you can find out more about what I do and how we could work together.

How I can help

I offer a safe, warm, confidential space where I will listen, with empathy and respect, as we begin to explore your concerns, so that you can begin to make sense and meaning of your experiences.

I won’t judge you. Instead, I will support you to look at your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that may be holding you back from making positive changes in your life.

I have lots of resources in my counselling room for working creatively if that is something that resonates with you (but it’s ok if it doesn’t!).

I won’t give you advice as my belief is that you are the person best placed to make your own decisions (although it may not feel that way right now). I will listen to you in a way that allows me to begin to understand the world through your eyes. This is one of the ways in which counselling is very different from talking to a friend or family member.

How I work

I draw on various therapeutic models including Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis (TA) in a way that’s tailored to fit you as an individual. Sometimes it’s helpful to work somatically, by bringing your awareness to your body’s response to your emotions in the here-and-now.

The sessions

How often will we meet?

We will usually meet weekly on the same day and the same time unless we have agreed otherwise.

Is the therapy room accessible?

My studio in Ditchling is accessible with free adjacent parking. Please contact me for further information.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your goals and what you want to gain from therapy. As well as working long-term I offer short-term, solution focused therapy. We can talk about what might work best for you during our initial free telephone consultation. I usually suggest we begin in an open-ended way and review our work regularly to see if you’re getting what you want from our sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
