About me

Hello, I’m Ryan — an openly gay counsellor and Music Teacher with over 43 years of experience in education. Having faced my own mental health challenges, I deeply understand the unique pressures teachers experience — from classroom stress to the end-of-year report writing that never seems to end.

My background in music informs much of my therapeutic work. I offer Music Therapy as part of my practice, where we can talk while you learn to play an instrument such as the Double Bass, Cello, or Violin. This creative approach can help you explore emotions, build confidence, and find calm through expression.

When my partner was diagnosed as AuDHD, I learned firsthand about the challenges and growth that come with neurodivergent relationships — from communication struggles and sensory sensitivities to navigating meltdowns and shutdowns. These experiences have deepened my empathy and understanding for those living with or alongside neurodivergence.

Whatever brings you here — whether it’s anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, or identity exploration — taking that first step can be the hardest. My role is to walk beside you, offering a safe, inclusive, and affirming space where you can explore, heal, and grow at your own pace.

My practice proudly welcomes LGBTQIA+ clients, and I wholeheartedly affirm that gender exists beyond a binary.

I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation, so you can get a feel for whether we connect before committing to sessions.
